Synopsis and Discussion

A line of showers associated with a cold front will sweep through this evening. Pockets of lower Code Yellow particle pollution are being observed ahead of the front and with cleaner air arriving late today, daily averages are expected to net out right near the Code Green/Yellow threshold. Good air quality is anticipated to kick off the new workweek before transient high pressure moves overhead, creating an environment conducive for the formation of strong temperature inversions. The inversions will help concentrate fine particles near the surface both during the morning and evening hours on Tuesday, pushing daily averages into the lower Code Yellow range. Another cold front will sweep through on Wednesday, promoting Code Green conditions. Ozone is expected to largely remain in check but could approach the Code Green/Yellow threshold on Tuesday.
