In 2016, Forsyth County held a Bond Referendum, which was approved by voters on November 8, 2016. The referendum included $15,000,000 in Parks and Recreation Facilities Bonds, with $5,000,000 designated for the development of a new multi-use agricultural events center.
Over several years, multiple potential sites were researched and evaluated. None of the initial locations fully met the needs of a multi-use agricultural center. After extensive deliberation, attention shifted to a 180-plus-acre property owned by Forsyth County on Rolling Hills Drive in Tobaccoville. In early 2022, this site was determined to best fit the project’s requirements.
At that time, it was also decided that the project could better serve the broader community by incorporating the NC Cooperative Extension Service.
Several public meetings were held to gather feedback from local residents, with the project receiving favorable support.
Budget development continued over the next several years, and a total of $20 million in funding was secured from both state and local sources. In 2023, a design-build contract was executed with Shelco, and design work began. Construction started in mid-2024 and concluded in early 2026. A grand opening for the NC Cooperative Extension offices and the Event Hall was held on Friday, June 26.
This new facility will provide long-lasting benefits to the citizens of Forsyth County and the surrounding communities. It will serve as a regional hub for agricultural education, community programming, youth development, and local events. The center will support area farmers, expand access to Cooperative Extension resources, attract visitors, stimulate economic activity, and strengthen opportunities for learning, collaboration, and community engagement across the region. Future development phases of park and added agricultural facilities will take place when funding becomes available.
